Introduction to the Government Documents Department

Free, open, and equal access to government information is crucial in a free society. The mission of the Frazar Memorial Library Government Documents Department is to maximize the social utility of government information to benefit the people in the 7th Congressional District of Louisiana. The goal of the Government Documents Department is to facilitate public access to government resources in a variety of formats. As a Selective Federal Depository Library, we collect 65% of the information distributed at no cost by the U. S. Government Printing Office. As a Complete Depository for Louisiana government publications, we receive most of the information distributed by the Louisiana Recorder of Documents. The Library's collection also includes international, regional, and local government information. Materials are available in print, microform, CD-ROM, and online. Some government information is stored in the Reference Department, Serials Department, and the general collection. Most are stored in the Government Documents Department on the fourth floor of the library. You can access government information through the library's online public access catalog, the library's web site, and the Government Information web site. Please feel free to visit the Government Documents Department. Our staff is ready to assist you.
