Historical Sketch
In 1854, the
Louisiana State Superintendent of Public Education to the
General Assembly reported that 784 pupils were enrolled in
the public schools of Calcasieu Parish. Today the Calcasieu
Parish School Board consists of over 30,000 students in 59
schools.
Scope and Content
Note
The collection
contains photographs of school buildings and a
cheerleader skirt from Hamilton Elementary School. It
also contains two ledgers with the handwritten minutes of
the school board from 1887-1911.
