Historical Sketch

The Enterprise Club grew out of a Woman’s War Relief Association organized during the Spanish-American War in 1898. The first project of the club was to clean up Orange Grove Cemetery which had fallen into disrepair. Next, the women established and became the custodians of Drew Park, seven and a half acres that Harrison C. Drew donated to the city in 1901. In 1907, the club joined the State Federation of Women’s Clubs and incorporated themselves in 1910. Since then, the Enterprise Club has participated in numerous civic and philanthropic projects, including beautifying Enterprise Boulevard, planting trees at schools, and providing scholarships for students.

Scope and Content Note

The records of the Enterprise Club consist of papers, photographs, ephemera, notes, scrapbooks, and drawings. The records comprise three series: Club business, projects, and scrapbooks. The Club business records consists of programs, histories, bylaws, minutes, correspondence, financial information, newsletters, photographs, and information from the state and local federations. The minutes files include the agenda, notes, financial statements, budgets, committee reports, and supporting documents for the meetings. The Projects records consist of the working files for the various projects and events of the club. The Scrapbooks are five photocopied scrapbooks and ephemera.
